Tom Waits’ new album Glitter and Doom Live will be released by Anti-Records on November 24th. The album is a 2-disc collection of the highlight tracks from Waits’ sold-out, “Glitter and Doom” tour and will feature 17 tracks that were recorded during Waits’ 2008 US and European tour.
You can preview two of the tracks, “Get Behind the Mule” and “Singapore” at the newly launched www.TomWaits.com.
The album includes a bonus 35 minute disc called “Tom Tales,” which is a compilation of the on-stage musings and banter between songs, for which Waits is well-known and is a favorite part of the performance for fans. The tracks from Disc One are recorded from 10 cities, including Paris, Birmingham, Tulsa, Milan, Atlanta, and Dublin.
Waits’ music has been covered by a diverse repertoire of artists, such as Cat Power, Tori Amos, and Pearl Jam. Scarlett Johannson released an entire album of Tom Waits covers. And Primus featured Waits on their album, Sailing the Seas of Cheese, as the voice of “Tommy the Cat.” Later, Primus Bassist, Les Claypool appeared on several of Waits’ releases.
Rod Stewart popularized Waits’ “Downtown Train,”while Bruce Springsteen covered the popular track “Jersey Girl”.
