It is still uncertain whether or not Tool will release a fifth album in 2010, but we do know the Los Angeles based progressive metal band will be touring this summer. U.S. performances include New Orleans, Houston, and Oklahoma City in late June. Then they venture north to Canada, performing in Edmonton and Vancouver in early July.
Tools latest release, 2006’s 10,000 Days was number one on the Billboard 200 charts. Since then, the band has been busy with other projects. Guitarist Adam Jones has a comic book series due out this summer, titled “X-Files/30 Days of Night.” And frontman Maynard James Keenan has been pursuing his passion for wine to create the wine making documentary, Blood into Wine, which recently premiered in select theaters February through April and will soon be available on DVD.
Maynard told NoiseCreep.com in a March interview that he was at maximum capacity, saying, “I don’t know if I can [work on a new album] right now. I am on the operating table and I’m breaching, I’m having a baby. The idea of making another baby right now is not appealing.” However, according to the band’s most recent newsletter, via TwentyFourBit, the next album is indeed in the works: “Members of the band are still in the process of writing new material (three days a week)… it shouldn’t be long before the dry-erase board is filled with a bewildering array of color-coded intros, progressions, agitatos, con sordinos, crescendos, diatonics, inversions, resolutions, transitions, variations, obbligatos, consonance, and endings – the arrangements that millions will attempt to down-load [sic] off the internet.”
Tickets for the Canadian shows go on sale this Friday, April 30th via Ticketmaster.com. Tickets for other dates will go on sale May 8th. More Tool tour dates and on-sale dates will be added once confirmed.
