Nickelback, Linkin Park Score Best-Selling Hard Rock Albums in 2010

nickelback

Nielsen SoundScan has released its list of the best-selling hard rock and metal albums in 2010. And the winner isn’t even an album that was made in ’10, or even ’09. Nickelback’s Dark Horse, release way back in 2008, takes the top spot. The remainder of the entries are split between 2010 releases and ones that were put out in ’09 (such as Them Crooked Vultures’ debut) or ’08 (Shinedown’s The Sound of Madness). Rock legends such as AC/DC and Jimi Hendrix are represented, as are … [Read more...]

Best Indie Records of 2010

CC

While getting such a rounded number as 25 wasn’t exactly the goal here, that’s how many ‘best’ indie records of 2010 I’d like to mention. As a disclaimer, this is not a reflection of The Silver Tongue indie team’s collective opinion, but a mere listing of the records that I, personally, have enjoyed the most throughout the year. Some of these I’ve reviewed, some not. All are on regular rotation. In the end, feel free to share your agreements, disagreements, loving and hateful … [Read more...]

Morrison was officially pardoned earlier this month, but the singer’s family and the surviving Doors feel he shouldn’t be pardoned for anything. “His performance in Miami that night was certainly provocative, and entirely in the insurrectionary spirit of the Doors’ … [Read more...]

Best of 2010: Top 10 Indie Albums

arcade_fire2

TST's best of 2010 continues with the best in indie music. It was a great year for bands such as Arcade Fire and the National, but who else made the list? 10. Beach House – Teen Dream Warm and beguiling, full of narcotic guitars and shimmering synths, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally took everything you loved about their first two albums and amplified them into a gorgeous, melancholic stunner of an album. 9. The Black Keys – Brothers A return to the raw, skuzzy blues rock of … [Read more...]

Best of 2010: Top 30 Metal Albums

nevermore

In 2010, there was an amazing amount of killer releases. My top 25 turned into a Top 30 and could have easily passed the 50 mark if I didn’t put a cap on it. I really hate giving ranks because my number 2 could easily be replaced with my number 30. My favorites weaves through the full underbelly of the metal spectrum from   classic thrash to new the neo-symphonic / atmospheric death to the grooves of sludge and doom to the return of some classic metal and technical death. 30.    … [Read more...]
