On Tuesday Christina Aguilera and her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, were apprehended in West Hollywood for public intoxication and driving under the influence, respectively, and early today E! News leaked a mugshot of the diva.
A release by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Rutler was pulled over around 2:45 AM and was found to be under the influence of alcohol. Aguilera, a passenger, was found to be intoxicated and was taken in to custody.
Sheriff’s Department representative Steve Whitmore had this to say: “[Aguilera] was not capable of taking care of herself. She was incapacitated, she was cooperative, she was not belligerent in any way whatsoever. She was just intoxicated. So what we do is that we do indeed arrest the individual on a misdemeanor public intoxication, but we have no desire to prosecute.” He added that she was released after she was “able to navigate and think on her own” at 10:30 AM EST, with a $5,000 bail set for Rutler.
Whitmore stated that the singer’s mugshot would not be released since charges were not being pressed against her. After E! News published a camera-taken picture of the mugshot, the representative said that the news organization had “surreptitiously stolen” the photo and called the act “inexcusable.”
E! retorted that the “footage, which included a picture of Christina Aguilera, was shot at a public press conference this morning where the media was invited to cover her arrest. It was shot in full accordance with the law and proper reporting procedures.”
