During an intimate show Sunday night at London’s 100 Club an unlikely pair took the stage. Sixty-three year old shock rocker Alice Cooper invited award winning actor Johnny Depp to perform with him during the show and was so impressed by his talent that Depp now has an open invitation to play with Cooper whenever he is available.
Alice commented: “I’d work with him again, I mean, the guy is a valid guitar player, we told him anytime he wants to come up and play, feel free. We’ve always give that kind of privilege to any great guitar player, like Brian May. He’s in the same place as Brian May or Slash. He’s a great guitarist.”
Not only did Cooper enjoy playing with Depp because of his musical abilities, but also the way fans reacted to the surprise performance.
Cooper told BAND Showbiz: “We looked at the twitter and everyone was like, ‘It’s gonna be Slash.’ Or, ‘It’s going to be Ronnie Wood’, or this guy or this guy. So when I introduced ‘Johnny D from Kentucky, a famous blues player’ and he come up, he had his head down and everyone was like, ‘Who’s that guy’. Then you could see the little light bulbs going on in their heads one by one and the girls at the front were going ‘That’s Johnny Depp!”
Depp has played in bands since his teenage years and actually dropped out of high school to become a rock musician. Even though acting took the lead role in his life Depp has always been involved in music, collaborating with artist ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea to the Sex Pistol’s guitarist Steve Jones and now Alice Cooper.
Cooper returns to the UK for his ‘Halloween Night of Fear’ tour in October.
