In April, Sole announced his third album with the Skyrider band, Hello Cruel World. It’s his first since having left his long-time label home anticon., and Sole and the band have embraced a more pop-friendly sensibility, though Sole’s lyrics are still abstract and somewhat angry.
The guest list includes typical cats like Sage Francis, as well as more indie collaborators such as Xiu Xiu. The most surprising, though, is the link-up with Lil B. As unexpected as the pair is, the song actually turns out really well. The Skyrider Band’s beat is relaxed and lush, a cloud for the rappers to lay their vocals over. Listen below:
