“When it was brought to us, it was quite interesting,” said Karla Redding (Daughter). “We wanted to, first of all, see the lyrics and, secondly, hear the song. We couldn’t find anything negative as it relates to the association with Otis Redding. My mother has protected that legacy for so many years; therefore she gave them the approval to do it.” According to EurWeb.
The song is Redding’s first on the R&B charts for the first time since when his “Free Me” hit number 30, on September 13, 1969. The number 15 position is the highest he’s been on the chart since early 1969 when “Papa’s got a Brand New Bag” made it to number 10. The break of 41 years and 10 months is the longest in R&B history, beating Cab Calloway who held the old record of 30 years.
Watch the Thrones will be officially released on August 2nd.
