In the Hip-Hop world nothing is bigger than the first week sales of a highly anticipated album. In it’s own way the sales numbers are a bigger deal than the actual album release. With the release of Lil Wayne’s Carter 4 all eyes are on sound scan. Lil’ Wyane fans are patiently awaiting the official numbers, especially after 2008′s the Lil Wayne Carter 3 sold a whopping 1 million copies first week, making it only one of 17 albums to sell such a vast amount of records in a week’s time.
Billboard is projecting that the Carter 4 will sell around 700,000-850,000 first week which will make it the second-largest album sold this year directly behind Lady Gaga’s 1.11 million debut with “Born This Way.” This might shock many since Jay-z & Kanye West collaboration album “Watch The Throne” ,only moved 450K it’s first week (still a very impressive number, but far from a million).
September 4th will mark the end of the tracking week, and we’ll get the official sound scan numbers for The Carter 4. But posed to sell double what Jay and Kanye sold, it’s safe to say that Li’l Wayne has not only over thrown the Throne, but officially claim his spot as Hip-Hop royalty.
