New True Blood Soundtrack

I’m a fan of BRMC (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) and True Blood, too, though I have to admit that I’m not completely up to date on watching, since I don’t really watch TV in realtime unless it’s lounge news or BookTV. But when I got the low-down on the series’ Volume 3 soundtrack, I got interested. Though I’ve not actually sat down and listened to the previous two musical installations, I do always find the show’s musical accompaniment appropriate and sometimes entertaining as a standalone element.

Three very important things caught my attention about the release’s track listing. Firstly and secondly, it includes numbers by Siouxsie and the Banshees and PJ Harvey. Thirdly, the opening track is a new version of “Season of the Witch,” a Donovan classic that’s been covered by some of my favorites (Terry Reid, Carol King, Hole), this time performed by Karen Elson, but ‘featuring’ Donovan, too!

Though not a huge fan, this new set of True Blood tunes also features a piece by Jakob Dylan and Gary Louris (interesting, right?), and, the headlining, rope-me-in piece – a brand new version of “Bad Things,” the True Blood theme song, done by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Listen for yourself:
