Eternally stony-faced Stephen Merritt of the Magnetic Fields is scheduled to release a collection of 14 recordings he made early in his career titled “Obscurities” on October 10th. The album is made up of songs that went unreleased until 1999′s mega-album “69 Love Songs”, as well as including five previously unreleased tracks.

Several of the songs come from “The Song>From Venus”, an unfinished sci-fi musical written by Merritt and Daniel Handler (or, as his fiction depicts him, Lemony Snickett).
