Talent, buzz, beauty and good career decisions make or break a career in Hollywood, and while many take years to obtain certain notoriety in the industry, these 10 stars (or at least stars-in-the-making) have garnered enough attention to have a place in the hearts of thousands of fans.
However, with the huge flow or artists that come and go, it’s hard to maintain top status in the entertainment world, and nobody knows this better than young actresses.
For every Scarlett Johansson there are at least five Thora Birch, but these 10 ingenues have a good chance of still being celebrities 10 years from now.
10. Emily Browning
Already famous in her native Australia, Emily Browning has been achieving a good rapport in Hollywood thanks to films like Lemony Snicket’s a Series of Unfortunate Events and The Uninvited.
Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch is considered to be her big break-out role, but unfortunately the film didn’t get the expected box office results its makers where hoping for.
Despite this, Browning is still considered a genuine talent, and we’ll be seeing her soon thanks to her movie Sleeping Beauty, which premiered in Cannes this year to great reviews.
9. The cast of Pretty Little Liars
Anyone over 30 won’t know them, but ask your little niece, your daughter or your little sister and they’ll gasp (maybe you will too, if you’ve already come across this ABC Family show… But of course you won’t accept it).
Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson and Shay Mitchell play best friends being tortured by a mysterious “A”, whom they think might be the one who murdered their best friend Alison. Complicated? Maybe a little, but this young cast of girls make this soapy show worthwhile, even if you’re over 30.
8. Elizabeth Olsen
No one in this list is fresh enough than Elizabeth Olsen right now. We have yet to see her in the film Martha Marcy May Marlene, which is supposed to be her big break, but the buzz is already pointing her out as a big force to be reckoned with.
While her acting might be enough, it doesn’t hurt that her sisters are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, so it’ll be interesting to see if talent is thicker than blood.
7. Mia Wasikowska
Mia’s face will forever be recognized as Alice in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, the film which captured a big chunk of business last year.
Sure, people flocked to see Tim’s vision and Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter, but Mia Wasikowska was able to measure up against an accomplished team that also included Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and Crispin Glover.
After her participation in Jane Eyre, Mia will be seen in the movies The Wettest County in the World and Stainless Steel, among others.
6. Emma Roberts
If she had a little bit more luck, Emma Roberts could be bigger by now, but she has yet to have a break-out role.
It seems like she’s been following a movie star’s guide to making it big: be part of a franchise (Scream 4 and Nancy Drew), famous relatives (Julia Roberts), indie cred (Lymelife, It’s Kind of a Funny Story), coming-of-age film (The Art of Getting By). But somehow she’s not there yet.
However, don’t count her out, because she’s still pretty young and some of her movies, while flops, do demonstrate that she has acting ability.
5. Saoirse Ronan
The young actress has already accomplished international acclaim due to her performance in the film Atonement, along Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.
Later on, she was seeing in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and soon she’ll get another chance to shine in Hanna, where she shares credit with Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett.
4. Chloe Moretz
With about 8 movies about to premiere this year and in 2012, this list couldn’t be complete without 14 year old Chloe Moretz.
Hipsters might know her from 500 Days of Summer, geeks loved her in Kick-Ass, horror enthusiasts praised her in Let Me In and fashion gurus adore her freshness but older-looking appearance.
3. Kristen Stewart
It’s hard to ignore Kristen Stewart’s power nowadays, what with Twilight and Snow White and the Huntsman in the future, Stewart promises to stick around.
Unfortunately, it’s also hard to like her, and that’s mainly the reason why she’s not number 1 on this list.
“You better not mess with me because I take myself very seriously” said Stewart referring to her role in the upcoming trilogy of Snow White. And while we know she’s only kidding, it’s hard to smirk with statements like that.
2. Elle Fanning
We like Dakota again, but even when we didn’t, we thought Elle was going to be in her sister’s shadow her entire career. Turns out she might be even better, and she’s just getting started.
Sofia Coppola trusted the tween to co-star in her latest movie endeavor, Somewhere, and then co-starred in the highly anticipated Super 8, directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg.
Not only that, but he was also embraced by Karl Lagerfeld in Chanel’s Haute Couture Show… And she’s not even 15 years old.
1. Emma Watson
Already a fashion and movie icon at 21, the question is how big will Emma Watson be in 10 years? And even though Harry Potter just finished its run as the biggest franchise in film history, Watson’s star keeps on rising.
Emma will continue with her education (she’s studying English at Brown University), but we’ll see her in the near future in the films My Week with Marilyn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
