As soon as next week, the major networks will be unveiling their new shows one by one, and while some have the critics raving, others didn’t fare so well.
This fall we’ll be seeing familiar faces, famed producers and some original stories, so what will you be watching?
Network: ABC
Revenge
Starring: Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe and Josh Bowman
Start Date: September 21st on ABC
Revenge has a typical yet delicious story; it’s a woman seeking revenge against rich snobs. Emily VanCamp does not project “crazy women looking for blood” which could be an interesting thing, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Depending on her portrayal, this drama could be a major snoozefest or guilty pleasure must-see.
Charlie’s Angels
Starring: Minka Kelly, Rachel Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh
Start Date: September 22nd on ABC
Minka Kelly’s one of those actresses that will inevitably be big in Hollywood, it’ll just take time.
Whether Charlie’s Angels will help her rise to the top remains to be seen, but this concept has already worked for so many women before her that this show would have to really suck to ruin her chances.
Pan Am
Starring: Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner and Karine Vanasse
Start Date: September 25th on ABC
It looks incredibly stylish, high-end production value and the plot seems fresh, plus, it has Christina Ricci who is very talented.
Looking at the trailer, Pan Am would’ve fared better in cable, so it will be interesting to see if the show takes off, no pun intended.
Network: CBS
2 Broke Girls
Starring: Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs
Start Date: September 19th on CBS
It was created by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings, so that’s a good indicator of what the show will be: sexy and funny.
Kat Dennings has been buzzing for a while in Hollywood and if she decided to give her film career a break to do television, then this must be a good comedy.
Person of Interest
Starring: Jim Caviezel and Micahel Emerson
Start Date: September 22nd on CBS
From JJ Abrams and with a cast consisting of Jim Caviezel and Micahel Emerson? We’re sold.
The story was somewhat difficult to follow, but JJ Abrams likes secrecy and unveiling details little by little, it’s just a matter of time before Person of Interest achieves full awesomeness.
Network: NBC
Up All Night
Starring: Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph
Start Date: September 14th on NBC
Christina Applegate is one of those actresses who you really want to root for, but usually ends up with projects less talented than she is (movie-career included). Will Arnett is one of the funniest actors on television and films, but he’s stronger when he plays a supporting character.
Up All Night does not sound like it will be as good as other NBC comedies like Community and Parks and Recreation, but it seems like it could capture a broader audience not used to the subtleties and pop culture references of the other two.
The Playboy Club
Starring: Eddie Cibrian, Amber Heard and Jenna Dewan
Start Date: September 19th on NBC
Eddie Cibrian does not equal a Don Draper, but it doesn’t look like The Playboy Club will be resting on his shoulders.
Amber Heard is one name to watch and this drama might help advance her career, but this drama won’t be her ultimate triumph.
Network: Fox
New Girl
Starring: Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Damon Wayans Jr.
Start Date: September 20th on Fox
If you think Zooey Deschanel has an adorable singing voice, is quirky and charming, then New Girl is the show for you.
The good thing about Deschanel is that she appeals to both men and women, the bad thing is that she appeals to a “type” of men and women, those who… think she has an adorable singing voice.
The X Factor
Judges: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, LA Reid and Nicole Scherzinger
Start Date: September 25th on Fox
It’ll be difficult for any show to top The X Factor, so it’s just a matter of how much will this talent competition crush its adversaries.
Simon Cowell reunites with Paula Abdul, which is supposedly a good thing, but honestly, I think that combination will get tiring after a while.
Terra Nova
Starring: Jason O’Mara, Shelley Conn and Landon Liboiron
Start Date: September 26th on Fox
This is one of the most anticipated series this fall, and with Steven Spielberg attached to this, it has little to no chance of disappointing.
The special effects look top notch and it includes dinosaurs, is there something better?
Network: The CW
Ringer
Starring: Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ioan Gruffudd
Start Date: September 13th on the CW
Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will sure catch this series because of Sarah Michelle Gellar, but this show about one woman taking over the life of her twin sister when she dies, might not be the instant hit many are expecting.
Sure, Gellar is popular, but her fanbase is a bit older for the CW, and teens who might be interested in the plot are already getting their fix with The Lying Game, which airs on ABC Family.
On the other hand, Ringer is getting good-enough reviews and the CW doesn’t really have the highest rated dramas, so it has a chance at surviving the first season.
The Secret Circle
Starring: Britt Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold and Natasha Henstridge
Start Date: September 15th on the CW
The Secret Circle is executive-produced by Kevin Williamson and is based off of a book series written by L.J. Smith (The Vampire Diaries) so it seems like it has all the ingredients for success.
The adult characters were more interesting in the trailer, but the teen actors seemed okay, and they will probably get better once the series progresses.
