The title “We Bought a Zoo” sounds like a movie similar to “The Zookeper”, but instead of Kevin James, we got Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Thomas Haden Church and Elle Fanning.
If that wasn’t enough, it’s directed by Cameron Crowe.
The film will be released on December 23rd, the perfect date for families to go to the movies and even better for awards season.
Matt Damon portraying a dad trying to keep his family together works, but Scarlett Johansson as his love interest doesn’t completely click.
Even though it’s based on a real story about a father trying to save a struggling zoo, the “zoo” part still sounds weird, maybe because it’s usually the scenery of light comedies where the animals brake free and “hilarity ensues”, not where “a family starts over again, and in the way, they find themselves”.
Judging by the trailer, this will be the type of film that will play to our emotions, they even throw the song “Hoppíppola” by Sigur Rós, which is basically saying “please cry when you see this”.
