After being moved by attorney’s Chen Ghuangcheng’s humanitarian efforts, Christian Bale decided to pay a visit to his home while promoting The Flowers of War in China.
After being inspired by Ghuangcheng’s story, a blind attorney who fights for civil rights, Bale decided to take an 8 hour drive to the city of Linyi, where the activist lives.
However, the Batman star was not only denied entrance to Ghuangcheng’s house, he was shoved and pushed by Chinese authorities, who have kept the attorney under house arrest since September 2010.
A CNN camera crew joined the Oscar winner, perhaps in hopes of filming the encounter, but Chinese authorities were already there to prevent the American actor and the crew from meeting Chen.
According to Bale, Chinese locals have been trying to see Ghuangcheng ever since he was released from prison, but the police have not permitted them.
The Flowers of War will be out next year.
