The full list of categories and nominations for the 2012 Brit awards were announced last night, with singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran leading the way with four – best male, best breakthrough act, best single (for ‘A Team’) and best album for +.
Jessie J, who was last year’s critics’ choice winner, has been nominated for three awards – best female, best breakthrough act and best single (for ‘Price Tag’).
Other notable nominees include Kate Bush – who released two top five albums in 2011 – and Björk, who has chalked up her 9th Brit award nomination and will look to scoop the Best International Female prize for a record fourth time.
Organisers of the Brit awards have confirmed that Adele will be performing at the ceremony on Tuesday 21 February, her first after recovering from throat surgery.
Two awards that have already been decided are the Outstanding Contribution award – going to Britpop legends Blur – and the Critics’ Choice award, which will presented to Emeli Sande.
