To celebrate the legend of Leonard Cohen, and his forty years of service to music, a number of artists have taken to covering their favorite Cohen song for a special Rolling Stone tribute entitled ‘Old Ideas With New Friends’. The first track debuted yesterday with an accompanying video of Dulli’s studio performance.
Afghan Whigs, Gutter Twins and Twilight Singers’ Greg Dulli said of his choice of ‘Paper Thin Hotel’:
“I’ve always wanted to do a version of this song.. they might be my favorite set of Leonard Cohen lyrics, I think they kind of explain and validate love all at the same time. And to someone who’s been challenged in that department many times, it was a beautiful catharsis to do this song”
Other artist taking part in the tribute to Cohen include Cults, Deerhunter’s Bradley Cox, Cold War Kids and New Pornographers A.C Newman. The next track to be featured will come from Cold War Kids, and will drop sometime on Thursday.
