Salina Sias has a voice that is soothing and smooth. She creates mood and dynamic particularly naturally, weaving stories on top of melodies that rise and flow with careful words. If her self-titled, 10-track debut record (released September 2011 on Eclectic Muse) is any indication, a tastefully crafted show at Arlene’s this Friday is one you don’t want to miss.
Salina moved to New York from Texas at the age of 17 to study acting, having lost her voice, literally, at a classical singing event. The award-winning songstress cites such influences as Leonard Cohen, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Tom Waits. Her music has, likewise, been compared to genres across the board – folk, pop and blues, to name a few.
Friday’s show will consist of a singer-songwriter set with a few acoustic covers. And, if you haven’t heard her before (and if you have), Salina is offering a free download of “You Ain’t the One” to TST readers.
