Crystal Castles’ Third Record & New Video

Today Crystal Castles announced that their third LP was in the making, and that it’s set for release this summer on Fiction Records. The band – Alice Glass and Ethan Kath – are recording in Warsaw, Poland this time, their first time in a studio since working on (II), their award-winning [see below] sophomore full-length, which was recorded in Iceland.

Often referred to as a ‘bleep bloop band’ by Hipsterrunoff, the dark, noisy, electronic duo have a cult following of fans, myself included, who cannot get enough of the experimental sounds and overdriven, four-on-the-floor hookiness of their songs. Often criticized for taking a more ‘mainstream’ or ‘techno’ turn, (II) won the band the prestigious John Peel Award for Innovation in Music at the 2011 NME Awards as well as Pitchfork’s Best New Music award. Obviously, the Icelandic motive wrought something good, and dark, as usual. Whether the Warsaw excursion will up the ante or not remains to be seen, but I’m feeling confident about it.

For cult fans in waiting, Crystal Castles just released a new music video for “Suffocation,” which was directed by Ethan Kath and features lots of pseudo-fashion footage of Alice. The video premiered on Vs Magazine’s website. Check it out HERE.

Additionally, L.A. noise band HEALTH just released a new remix of “Suffocation,” available for download today at Pitchfork.
