Did Ghost Rider Burn the Competition at the Box Office?

The answer is an absolute no.

Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance ultimately raked in $25.7 million, but it wasn’t enough to knock Journey 2: The Mysterious Island out of third place. The movie managed to score $26.4 million from Friday to Monday. Ghost Rider had to settle for fourth.

Meanwhile, last week’s champions remained in the game, only this time the duo of Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds did better than Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams.

Safe House came out on top with $23.8 million, beating The Vow with $23.1 million.

Nicolas Cage wasn’t the only Hollywood star having a bad Presidential weekend, Reese Witherspoon probably didn’t celebrate as much. Her latest rom-com This Means War, co-starring Chris Pine and Tom Hardy, earned an estimated $20.4 million at the box office.

Witherspoon’s film ended up placing 5th place.
