John Peel’s Record Collection Available Digitally

It was announced today that the late and notable BBC DJ John Peel’s vinyl collection will soon be available for browsing online in the near future. Peel, known primarily for his work with BBC Radio 1 and the Peel Sessions, passed away in 2004 at the age of 65 from a heart attack.

His catalog, numbering in the 25,000 LP and 40,000 singles range, will also include artist and family member interviews. Tom Barker, the director of the John Peel Centre, told BBC the library will serve as “an online interactive museum,” and that “this is the first step in the journey of making one of the most important archives in modern music history available completely.”
