Metric to Self-Release New Album ‘Synthetica’

Metric have just announced that they will be self-releasing their fifth studio album on their own imprint, Metric Music International. Frontwoman Emily Haines expressed great excitement about this change in a letter now up on their website.

The new album, titled Synthetica, will be released on June 12 in Canada and the United States. It was recorded in the band’s own studio, Giant, in Toronto and Electric Lady Studios in New York City. It features production by lead guitarist Jimmy Shaw and mixing by John O’Mahony.

Haines went on to discuss the sound of Synthetica at length in her letter, writing:

“FANTASIES was all about pushing ourselves out into the world, going to unknown places and shaking off everything familiar. SYNTHETICA is about staying home and wanting to crawl out of your skin from the lack of external stimulation. SYNTHETICA is about forcing yourself to confront what you see in the mirror when you finally stand still long enough to catch a reflection. SYNTHETICA is about being able to identify the original in a long line of reproductions. It’s about what is real vs what is artificial.”
