Morrissey Autobiography for 2012?

It has been rumored on a number of websites that former lead singer of The Smiths, Morrissey, will be releasing his autobiography in December 2012.

The Guardian states:

So it is that this year brings autobiographies from two of rock’s most gnomic figures, Morrissey and Neil Young, as well as The Who’s Pete Townshend and the Manic Street Preachers’ controversialist-in-chief Nicky Wire.

While Digital Journal writes:

Morrissey, who made a series of seminal albums with The Smiths as the bands lead singer and lyricist as well as several solo artists, has agreed a publishing deal with Penguin Books and will be one of several music-linked autobiographies published this year.

The Silver Tongue has asked Penguin Books whether the rumours will be confirmed in the near future, but at the time of writing are yet to reply.

In 2011, speaking to The Independent, a spokesperson for Penguin Books commented:

There is a natural fit between Morrissey’s sensibility, his artistic achievements and Penguin Classics. A book could be published as a Penguin Classic because it is a classic in the making.

Morrissey himself said that there was a ‘possibility’ that he would sign a publishing contract with Penguin Books, but there is no official word from his camp.

In related news, the singer has confirmed dates for his tour of Japan and South Korea.

The dates are as follows:

19 Thursday SENDAI Zepp
21 Saturday KAWASAKI Club Citta
23 Monday TOKYO Zepp
24 Tuesday TOKYO Zepp
26 Thursday FUKUOKA Zepp
