Doctors will wait before bringing the comedian Gallagher out of the medically induced coma he was put in after a heart attack last Wednesday in Texas.
The 65-year-old prop comic had to have two stents replaced after collapsing last week before a performance in Lewisville, a Dallas suburb. Doctors had planned to wake him on Saturday. Christine Scherrer, his promotional manager, says he was trying to wake on his own. Doctors are keeping him sedated because they want to wake him slowly. She says they may try today.
Gallagher had a minor heart attack last March after collapsing while performing in Minnesota. His full name is Leo Anthony Gallagher. Gallagher is best known for smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer.
Update: Gallagher has been taken out of a medically induced coma and talking to friends and family, this according to his promotional manager.
