Listen: Sleigh Bells Cover Beyoncé’s ‘Irreplaceable’

New York synth-punk band Sleigh Bells dropped a surprise treat during their Maida Vale session for Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show by covering one of the biggest names in pop music, Beyoncé.

The band have made no secret of their love of the singer, even collaborating with the singer last year, although the track(s) never saw the light. With guitarist Derek Miller adding “Obviously we’re massive fans of her and she’s a living legend. I’d love to actually work with her someday when I actually get some creative input”.

The version features airy swelling synths and acoustic guitar, whilst Alexis Krauss’ more than competent vocals show a more delicate approach to the stomping, boisterous original number. The cover took place at the band’s session in support of their sophomore album ‘Reign of Terror’, which has received rave reviews from critics since it’s release.
