Robin Williams to Receive the Stand-Up Icon Award

Academy Award-winning actor and multiple Grammy-winner Robin Williams will receive the Stand-Up Icon award at The Comedy Awards. The award recognizes modern icons who made an extraordinary contribution to stand-up comedy and whose influence reverberates through future generations of entertainers. “The Comedy Awards” in an annual event dedicated to honoring and celebrating the world of comedy. Tracy Morgan presented the inaugural recipient, Eddie Murphy, with the honor during last year’s show. Williams will be honored in recognition of the unparalleled scope of his imagination, his repertoire of indelible characters, and his outstanding work as a stand-up comedian.

The Stand-Up Icon award will be presented at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, April 28 and air on Comedy Central on Sunday, May 6.

Robin Williams began his career as a stand-up comedian and has returned to stand-up throughout his career , most recently with his critically-acclaimed, sold-out, Weapons of Self Destruction comedy tour of the U.S., London and Canada.
