As previously reported, Invisible Children co-founder and the filmmaker behind the Kony 2012 documentary had a massive meltdown this evening and was arrested by San Diego police and TMZ has obtained video of the incident. In the clip Russell is naked and appears to be pounding his hands on the pavement. Watch below.
Russell, 33,was detained at the intersection of Ingraham Street and Riviera Road after he was discovered allegedly masturbating and vandalizing cars. Police said they received several calls yesterday at 11:30 a.m. of a man undressed and running through traffic and screaming. Police described him as “in his underwear.” He was held on a 5150 psychiatric hold to asset if he was a danger to himself or others.
Ben Keesey, CEO of Invisible Children said that Russell was suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition as a result of a strenuous PR campaign.
“He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better,” says Keesey. “The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday.
“Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many,” the statement continues, “and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.”
The Kony 2012 documentary went viral two weeks ago and has been watched more than 80 million times.
