Adam Yauch, better known by the moniker MCA, passed away today from his long-endured battle with cancer. Since 2009, the co-founder of Beastie Boys has been under treatment for a cancerous parotid gland and lymph node.
The group was induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last week, but Yauch was unable to attend due to his illness.
The Beastie Boys, founded in 1979 by Yauch and his counterparts Mike D, Ad Rock and Mix Master Mike, are a Grammy-studded outfit with iconic albums such as Hello Nasty, the more recent The Mix-Up and songs such as “Intergalactic,” “Sabotage” and “No Sleep till Brooklyn.”
Yauch is survived by both his wife and daughter. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
Check out Yauch’s abilities on “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” from the group’s most recent effort, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two.
