Folk Legend Doc Watson Dead at 89

The world has lost one of music’s acoustic gems.

Yesterday, Doc Watson passed away after complications from undergoing colon surgery. He passed away at the age of 89 in Winston-Salem, NC.

Known as the forefather of flatpicking, Doc Watson’s style was easily recognizable and iconic of a style of music he honed his whole life. Losing his eyesight after an infection at the age of 1, Watson went on to win seven Grammy awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004.
