After years of speculation, a follow-up to Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s 2005 film Sin City has finally been announced, and Mickey Rourke is confirmed as once again donning the ridiculous chin of loveable not-quite-psychopathic-killer, Marv. The sequel, which is set to arrive in October 2013, will be titled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and will presumably follow the events of the graphic novel of the same name.
While it may have been overshadowed by the might of 2004 and 2005 comic book legends Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins, the original Sin City met much acclaim upon its release, due to its iconic, neo-noir visuals and direction from the series’ original creator. This style will undoubtedly be replicated for the sequel, but speculation is also to be had about the possible use of 3D – an element which would surely lend itself wholeheartedly to the film’s comic book layering, gushing blood and severed limbs.
Along with Rourke, Jessica Alba has also been confirmed as returning in the role of Nancy, and rumors have circled about potential participation from big names Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and others.
Production will begin this summer at Troublemaker studios, with a script by Rodriguez and The Departed‘s William Monahan.
