On June 5th I co-hosted Slip of the Tongue, the official podcast series of The Silver Tongue, and towards the end we weighed in with what’s spinning on our iPods these days. My contribution to that discussion was a Nashville-based band called Fly Golden Eagle, a largely unheard of group that defies genre categorization on their 2011 release Swagger by pulling from influences as diverse as 60s garage rock, funkadelic, and even acid jazz. While FGE has been making music for three years, they have flown mostly under the radar. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them blow up in the near future, especially after their recent opportunity to spread the word at Bonnaroo after winning BMI’s “Road to Bonnaroo” competition.
“Psyche’s Dagger” is one of the undeniable hits on the record and you’ll be hard pressed not to dance and shake during the verses only to stop and croon along on the infectious chorus.
