Listen: Patti Smith – “Fuji-san”

Head over to NPR Music and check out “Fuji-san,” Patti Smith’s latest release from her upcoming album Banga. “Fuji-san” is a heavy rock tune dedicated to the victims of Japan’s Tohoku earthquake. Smith fans should not be disappointed, as the punk legend maintains her raw and untamed yet paradoxically wise and poetic vocals.

In fact, Smith reportedly compared Banga to her debut album Horses in style and composition. She noted that they were recorded in the same studio with the same personnel. Keep an ear out for Television’s Tom Verlaine on guitar, as well, for yet another blast from the past.

Banga, Smith’s 11th studio album, will be released this Tuesday via Columbia Records.
