Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine found out earlier this week that hell hath no fury like fans of hair metal, after he was driven off stage by a barrage of rocks at Croatian festival Metalfest on Tuesday.
The incident came about following rumours that glam band W.A.S.P. had refused to participate in the festival, hanging up their leather skin-tights and closeting their hairspray following arguments with Mustaine. Though this remains unconfirmed, speculation was good enough for the crowd, who chanted ‘we want WASP’ as rocks were thrown, one reportedly hitting Mustaine in the head. The band left the stage for a few minutes before a spokesperson appeared and apologised, facing his own bombardment in the process.
This report comes amongst a recent batch of news regarding Mustaine’s antics, including claims that Obama wasn’t born in America, opposition to gay marriage, and a refusal to play venues with ‘Satanic’ bands – presumably because they weaken his divine powers, which he suggests helped cure a fan of cancer last November (I wish I was joking). Perhaps it can be hoped that the rock struck some sense in to the thrash metal legend.
Megadeth will be playing Download Festival this Sunday, where hopefully their biggest threat will be the British weather. For now, the Metalfest occurrence can be seen below, starting at the 9:30 mark.
