New ‘The Campaign’ Posters – Who’s Got Your Vote?

Excuse me while I get over seeing Zach Galifianakis without a beard … Okay, on to the news.

While the eyes of the US are glued to the actions of two politicians with substantially different haircuts (my British knowledge of American government is on full display here), Austin Powers director Jay Roach is busy working on his new political comedy The Campaign.

The film follows the struggle between Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) and Marty Huggins (Galifianakis), two Southerners both attempting to win a North Carolina congressional election. Brady, sure of his unopposed victory, manages to tempt Huggins into running as a rival. Antics ensue.

From the peeks we are given in the trailer, the characters unfortunately seem to suffer from some of those Ferrell-brand comedy clichés, but will provide a few laughs nonetheless. Let’s just hope that what could be a very effective satire doesn’t tumble in to the dire tar pit that is failed summer comedies, especially considering its tactical release date of August 10.

Until then, I’m sure Obama and Romney will provide sufficient entertainment with their own political ads. Though sadly, they will probably contain considerably less baby punching.
