The xx Announce New Album ‘Coexist’

The South London lo-fi outfit, The xx have released the first details of their new album. Entitled Coexist, the record will be the first since 2009′s Mercury Music Prize winning debut, xx.

The band’s sophomore LP was recorded between November 2011 and May 2012, with Jamie xx set to take the helm as producer once again. The record will be released on 10th September of this year, though these are the only details released so far. If you can’t conceivably wait that long for new material, the trio are set to debut a handful of new songs on their North American tour, as well as a host of festival dates.

The group took to their Facebook page earlier today, with a brief statement:

“We’re so excited to share with you the news that our second record ‘Coexist’ will be released on September 10th. After a long time on the road, we took a break, created our own studio and wrote these new songs that we’re so looking forward to playing to you. We will be touring throughout the summer and beyond, and hope to play somewhere near you soon. xx The xx”.

The sessions for the new record are said to have been influenced by dance music, with Jamie XX saying “club music has definitely had an influence on the next record”, adding that since the release of their debut album, xx, “We’ve all come back off tour and [have] kind of been partying a little bit more.”
