Watch: “The Hobbit” Video Blog

If you’re just about sick of visiting fictional worlds full of superheroes, spandex and alien threats, Peter Jackson and co have you covered. The seventh entry to The Hobbit’s Production Video is now available at the movie’s official Facebook page, and promises a suitably cheerful look in to the creation of Middle Earth.

The magic all takes place at the Stone Street studio facility – the collection of sets, filming studios and other buildings that have previously been used by Jackon’s team in The Lord of the Rings and King Kong. While this outing sees little in terms of plot or previously unknown information (the storyboards and concept art are all tantalizingly blurred out), the team – all apparently incredibly enthusiastic about their jobs – inject a charming, personal atmosphere in to the production – the sort you wouldn’t expect to see in to the creation of such giant blockbusters.

A few actors are seen rehearsing lines and undergoing their dwarven transformations, including Billy Connolly (Dain) and James Nesbitt (Bofur), but the highlight of the blog is the glimpses given in to the creative processes going on behind the scenes – from set creation to the ever-vital beard-dying.

Those hoping for exclusive inside information may be let down, but for fans of the series, this is a must-see, pleasant little entry. The only shocking, cinematic revelation you’re going to find is that several of the dwarf’s ‘body doubles’ are played by relatively attractive women in their 30s, and that the cameraman is not who you’d expect.

We're looking for writers and editors to join the team. Interested? Apply today!
