For the album’s 45th anniversary on Oct. 1, The Velvet Underground & Nico will be re-released as a six-disc deluxe edition. The Velvet Underground’s boundary-pushing debut is a staple for any historically-savvy music library; it features production and artwork by Andy Warhol, as well as vocals by the eery rock and roll seductress Nico.
The six-disc set includes The Velvet Underground & Nico in both mono and stereo, Nico’s 1967 solo debut Chelsea Girl (which features production and instrumentation by members of the Velvet Underground on many of its tracks), unreleased recordings from sessions at Sceptor Studios and a rehearsal at Andy Warhol’s Factory, along with live recordings of the band performing at the Valleydale Ballroom in Colombus, OH in 1966.
