Deftones Announce New Album & Tour

Good news for fans of alternative, grungey, stonery-yet-still-thrashy metal, the Deftones have announced their next album, Koi No Yokan, as well as a supporting US tour starting this October. Having spent their summer opening for System of a Down‘s reunion tour, it is time for some favours to be returned, and SOAD’s guitarist Daron Malakian will be tagging along to support with his band Scars on Broadway.

Koi No Yokan is a Japanese sentiment, similar to the idea of love at first sight, though more concerned with feeling that you will fall in love (if anyone asks, I knew that without Google). This may be a little pointer to the album taking a more emotional approach – an idea which lends itself to singer Chino Moreno’s alternating screams and tenor.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the frontman stated “Obviously we’re an aggressive band – not the heaviest, but there’s a lot of attack.” He went on, “But there’s also this lush beauty that flows within everything that we do, and that’s my favorite part of the band. To me, it’s the epitome of what the Deftones do.” Either that, or the band just thought it sounded pretty.

Nick Raskulinecz, who also produced 2010′s Diamond Eyes, will be returning for the album, which is set to be released on November 13th.
