The Smashing Pumpkins Announce Oceania Tour, Play The Celestials on Leno

The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins are ready to hit the road for a major tour of arenas across the U.S.  The band will be out in full force in support of Oceania, which dropped back in June to widespread critical acclaim and a debut at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 its opening week.

Corgan and company (guitarist Jeff Schroeder, drummer Mike Byrne, bassist Nicole Fiorentino) will be playing Oceania in full for the first half of each show and launching into SP classics and deep cuts for the back half. The Pumpkins dialed up Sean Evans, the brains behind the visuals on Roger WatersThe Wall tour, to make use of new technology and visual-mapping to construct a visually stunning live show unlike anything ever seen before.

The tour will kick off on October 10 in Seattle and hit thirteen other confirmed U.S. cities along the way. Check out the full list after the jump.

Many critics, including Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times, have hailed Oceania as “the best thing the Pumpkins have done since the ‘90s.” It should be amazing to see what Billy and his band have up their sleeves for translating the album and Pumpkins classics into a groundbreaking live spectacle.

For now, get a tiny taste of what to expect in concert by watching the band’s performance of “The Celestials,”  which they unleashed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night.
