Kentucky fivesome My Morning Jacket have released a video for their new single ‘Outta My System’, and it has everything you want from an ode to drugs: cyclopses, flying yellow vehicles presumably on loan from John, Paul, George and Ringo, and the likeness of Zach Galifianakis as a cartoon wizard.
While he might not have any dialogue, the band must have paid untold millions for the rights to portray the comedian’s beard, in all its glory.
The song itself is a great psychedelic number, and doesn’t fall victim to the cliché of glamourising drugs, rather, tackles the relatively mundane practice of experimenting, and…getting it out of your system. The repeated refrain of the song is, as a result, one that most can relate to, rather than a rant about seeing flying rainbows and giant eyeballs:
Oh lord I’d never do it now I know what I ain’t missing
I’m glad I went and got it all outta my system
‘Outa My System’ is available on My Morning Jacket’s 2011 album, Circuital, and is soon to be released on an EP. Galifianakis meanwhile, will be staring alongside Will Ferrell in The Campaign, coming August 10th. Hopefully he keeps the wizard robes.
