North Wales trio The Joy Formidable made a hell of a thrilling and thrashing racket in 2011 with their hit debut LP, A Big Roar. The band has been working in the studio for a new album with a projected January 2013 release, and “Wolf’s Law” is the first piece of new music the band has put out into the world from the recordings.
The song is a gorgeous left turn for the band with the decision to mostly trade in riotous guitars for sublime piano. However, the trio hasn’t totally abandoned their rock urges on “Wolf’s Law.” As you would expect if you’ve become a fan over the past few years, there is a truly momentous climax with The Joy Formidable’s unparalleled power to simultaneously induce both goosebumps and headbanging.
