After discovering Green Day was left with merely one minute for the duration of their iHeartRadio Music Festival set on Friday, Billie Joe Armstrong cut short “Basket Case” and ripped off a furious, expletive-laden rant before smashing his Les Paul.
News broke today that Armstrong has checked into rehab for substance abuse, just two days before the release of new album ¡Uno! A statement posted on Green Day’s Facebook page says:
“Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.”
¡Uno! is the first of three albums from Green Day’s heavily hyped trilogy that will be released in the coming months. Following the release of ¡Uno! on Sept. 25, ¡DOS! will hit stores on Nov. 13 and ¡TRÉ! on Jan. 15, 2013. You can stream ¡Uno! in full on the band’s Facebook page.
