Not many acts can boast having household names covering their work – and fewer still can boast these covers ever seeing the light of day outside of concert intervals and guitar warm-ups. But that is exactly what has happened to The Who today, with news that members of Judas Priest, Def Leppard, King Crimson, Cream and The Kinks, amongst others, will be performing on a tribute album to the guitar-smashing gods.
As disconcerting as the word ‘supergroup’ is, the 16-track record, titled ‘Who Are You’, will be mostly made up of such collaborative efforts, with individual covers from the likes of Iggy Pop, The Raveonettes and Sweet.
In other news, The Who will embark on their Quadrophenia world tour this November, and guitarist Pete Townshend is set to publish his autobiography ‘Who I Am’ the month before. This will presumably be followed by the other word-play works ‘You’re the Who?’, ‘Am I Who?’ and the ever-confusing ‘Who am I?’
The tribute will arrive October 2nd, but is available for pre-order through Amazon.
