Download Den: Wheeler Brothers – Home for the Holidays

Welcome to The Silver Tongue’s Download Den.

Here is where we will pass along the most intriguing and worthwhile songs that we’ve been fortunate enough to discover. Many will be songs we’ve been obsessing over in our homes with the record spinning and a drink in hand, and others will be melodies culled from our inbox that snuck up and got their hooks in us.

We’re not concerned with genre limitations or mere trendiness. We simply want to open the door for you to join us in listening to music that is making us excited about the power of a song. Check out the Download Den daily, and the least we can do is help soundtrack your day.

Wheeler Brothers

As we roll along towards the waning months of the year, what better way is there to prepare your for the swell of emotions and reunions at hand during the holiday season than a song that genuinely taps into its truest meaning? Before getting overwhelmed by rehashed and neutered holiday songs that are certain to be flooding the speakers of every big box speaker system and television advertisement in the weeks ahead, how about taking a chance on a song with enough heart, soul and gorgeous musicianship to make your worries about such the vacuousness of such commercialism just slip away?

That’s where up-and-coming Austin, TX five-piece Wheeler Brothers come in. These guys have been winning heavy acclaim in a hometown that is bursting at the seams with exponentially more musical riches than ever before. Take careful note that Wheeler Brothers raked in honors for Best New Band, Best Roots Rock, Best Bass Player, Best Acoustic Guitar and Best Lap Steel at the 2012 Austin Music Awards. Now, realize this is for the band’s debut album.

Wheeler Brothers are a band I hope people a thousand miles away from the 512 will seek out and cherish. If this is your introduction to them, “Home for the Holidays” is a magnificent place to start. This Portraits gem is an elegant, anthemic stunner that just may call to mind classic albums like Built to Spill’s Keep It Like a Secret and Band of Horses’ Everything All the Time.

Enjoy “Home for the Holidays” below, and feel free to share your thoughts.
