Here is where we will pass along the most intriguing and worthwhile songs that we’ve been fortunate enough to discover. Many will be songs we’ve been obsessing over in our homes with the record spinning and a drink in hand, and others will be melodies culled from our inbox that snuck up and got their hooks in us.
We’re not concerned with genre limitations or mere trendiness. We simply want to open the door for you to join us in listening to music that is making us excited about the power of a song. Check out the Download Den daily, and the least we can do is soundtrack your day.
I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to talk with up-and-coming Omaha trio Icky Blossoms about their acclaimed, self-titled debut LP (out on Saddle Creek) and gearing up to open for indie heroes The Faint on the band’s Danse Macabre tour. That interview will be featured in the coming days, and it should be a proper introduction to the band and their thrillingly potent mix of sounds.
For now, get a taste of Icky Blossoms’ “Perfect Vision,” a downright blissful jam that doesn’t sound far removed from a triumphant convergence of The xx and The Jesus and the Mary Chain’s “Just Like Honey.” It’s a mesmerizing achievement. Don’t be surprised if you’re craving to float away time and again with its powerful groove and the chorus, “Boredom so loud. Boredom so loud. There’s nothing to do but get high in the afternoon.”
