Do you know the scene in Pulp Fiction when Mia Wallace (the character played by Uma Thurman) bumps a line of coke, flings her head up and says, “I said Goddamn! Goddamn!”? I think about this very moment when I listen to FIDLAR; their brand of punk is like a cocaine rush to the head that forces it’s way out vocally because it feels better than containing it. FIDLAR are musical contemporaries of bands like Black Lips and they have certainly generated a lot of buzz over the last year, receiving accolades from the likes of VICE and Guardian for their straight-no-chaser brand of West Cost garage punk. Finally the long wait for a full-length record is over; yesterday the band released their eponymous debut on Mom & Pop Records. It’s early but I’d be surprised not to see it at the end of the year in many “best of” lists.
FIDLAR also released their latest in a slew of new videos, a cheeky, bandstand-style video for “Gimme Something.” Check out the video below.
