In case you missed it on PBS over the weekend, Jack White took the Austin City Limits stage to kick off the second half of the live music series’ 38th season. White utilized his all-male band The Buzzards for the first half of the set, while his all-female Peacocks joined him for the back half of the performance. Throughout the taping, White and his bands tore through songs from his Grammy-nominated 2012 album, Blunderbuss, in addition to his songs from The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather. Jack was even able to make room for a few choice covers from Blind Willie Johnson (“John the Revelator”) and Hank Williams (“You That I Know”) to round out the ACL performance.
In addition to the Austin City Limits airing, Jack also made news in the past few days by bringing home the title of best-selling vinyl album of 2012 with Blunderbuss. His debut solo effort and Third Man Records offering moved a reported 33,000 copies on vinyl and logged the highest sales figure since Soundscan started tracking such figures in 2008. In addition to taking the #1 spot, Blunderbuss knocked The Beatles’ Abbey Road from the throne. Abbey Road had held the title for each of the three years prior. White’s Blunderbuss will go head-to-head with Mumford & Sons (Babel), Frank Ocean (channel ORANGE), The Black Keys (El Camino), and fun. (Some Nights) for the 2013 Grammy Award for “Album of the Year” on February 10.
