Stone Temple Pilots Say Hasta La Vista, Scott Weiland

Musicians aren’t necessarily known for their excellent communication skills, but this level of obtuseness takes the cake. Yesterday, refuting rumors spread by former Velvet Revolver bandmate Slash, Weiland told Rolling Stone he was still part of Stone Temple Pilots. (A band famous for blatantly ripping off already-successful grunge guitar riffs and then turning into a commercial alt. rock success story.) Today, Stone Temple Pilots announced that they have “terminated” Scott Weiland. It’s a statement that inspires images of Arnold Schwarzenegger chasing the freaky-haired alt. rocker down the street, and more-than-hints at STP’s internal turmoil.

It is no surprise that Stone Temple Pilots have chosen to exact Weiland from their line-up (the first Stone Temple Pilots’ hiatus came after much arguing between Weiland and Dean and Robert DeLeo). This isn’t the first time Weiland has been ousted from a musical endeavor; he was booted from Velvet Revolver in 2008. Weiland had referred to Stone Temple Pilots as a family, and the monicker is apt. What family isn’t rife with dysfunction? Now, all we can do is sit back and wait to see if Scott Weiland’ll be back.
