3 killed, 4 injured after helicopter crashed near Grand Canyon

A helicopter tour in the Grand Canyon this weekend ended in a fiery crash, killing three of the seven people onboard crashed and injuring four others, the police said.

Authorities say the four were level 1 trauma patients.

The Federal Aviation Administration would also be investigating the crash of the Eurocopter EC130, spokesman Allen Kenitzer said.

He did not have details of the crash.

Images have emerged showing flames and thick smoke rising from the boulder-strewn crash site. He did not name which company the helicopter was part of.

Fujimoto, a Las Vegas photographer who was doing a wedding shoot at the time of the crash, said he suddenly saw people running toward the edge of a gulch.

The helicopter was on a tour of the canyon and more than a mile deep when it went down, Reuters reported, citing information from KNXV-TV.

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are providing support to the families of six British visitors involved in a helicopter accident at the Grand Canyon on February 10, and we are in close contact with the U.S. emergency services".

The incident was confirmed to have occurred in the Grand Canyon West area at about 00:20 GMT.

"By 7 a.m., just boom!"

According to reports, the place was reportedly carrying six passengers and a pilot.

The reason behind the crash is still not known.
