Angel Di Maria open to Barcelona move, Real Madrid connection 'over'

Di Maria, more recently, has often been linked with a move to Barcelona to team up with global colleague Lionel Messi and has said he would have no problem playing there.

"I want to thank all those who voted for me and, above all, thank my team-mates, the coaches and Real Madrid staff".

The 33-year-old has shown signs of returning to his very best in 2018, though, hitting seven goals in his last three league matches, including a hat-trick in Saturday's 5-2 win over Real Sociedad.

The pressure on him is huge, with PSG's owners unlikely to look kindly on a second consecutive exit at this stage of the Champions League given the extent of their investment at the start of this season.

The games over the two legs have much more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar it, there will be a lot of key battles that will decide the contest.

However, it's trophies that eventually matter and PSG need to win the Champions League to get that extra bit that puts them on a pedestal.

PSG are the top scorers in this season's Champions League; Emery's side scored 25 times in just six group stage games.

The story most certainly hasn't gone unnoticed on social media, with many commentating on how fishy the whole thing sounds. And looking back, it should have been obvious that the Russian never had any ties to sensitive information.

The Round of 16 clash between defending champions Real Madrid against PSG will kickstart at 1:15 AM IST. I don't think so. "I am only thinking about the match", the Frenchman insisted on the eve of the game. The Portuguese has 43 goals in his last 43 appearances in the knockout phase.

What better a statement can PSG make then knocking out the real kings of Europe, Real Madrid, a team which has the most number (12) of Champions League titles.

Madrid left-back Marcelo had earlier done his bit to fuel the speculation, saying: "Madrid fans like good players".

That was after he gave an interview to Brazilian television saying that his global colleague would one day play for the Spanish giants.

Paris have of course been in Spain since that game in 2015, and will never forget the 6-1 humiliation they suffered in Barcelona at the same stage of last year´s Champions League. The Champions League is the target for PSG once again and with the additions of Neymar and Mbappe they will hope that they have enough this season. For Real, Nacho should replace the banned Dani Caravajal at right-back.

PSG travelled without veteran midfielder Thiago Motta, meaning recent signing Lassana Diarra is tipped to start against his old club.
