A winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday night for parts of the Philadelphia region, including the western parts of Chester and Montgomery counties, and central and northern Bucks County, according to the National Weather Service.

Madison officially received 2.3 inches of snow on Monday (before midnight), though some locations got more, including 3.6 inches at the Weather Service office in the Milwaukee area and 6 inches in La Crosse. The heaviest snow is expected to hit much of Minnesota Monday with some places perhaps getting 10 or 12 inches.

Hard travel conditions will be prevalent through the region winds gusting to as high as 40 miles per hour cause areas of blowing and drifting snow. At times, roads will be snow-covered with low visibility.

"Then it keeps snowing until Tuesday morning", he said. It should begin as rain everywhere, with temperatures still in the 40s. Time frame for this to occur will be Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning. The system could increase the amount of snow received this winter by more than 50 percent and bring 1 1/2 inches of moisture, Ayd said. Thanks to a clear sky and (finally) calmer winds, temperatures will vary from the mid-20s in the Pine Barrens to around freezing at the Jersey Shore. Another bout of rain, wind and more importantly, snow will fall on Wednesday. This includes rain and the water equivalent of snow and ice.

After a high of 42 degrees on Tuesday, Accuweather is predicting the low will drop to 31 overnight, with a high of 37 during the day Wednesday. We will watch for a band of snow to set up somewhere in NJ / Eastern PA.

The storm is expected to arrive less than a week after a nor'easter brought rain and strong winds that knocked out power to 150,000 National Grid customers in Rhode Island. Here is what to expect during the storm. Also, southeast winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to 45 miles per hour will create areas of blowing and drifting snow causing additional travel impacts across open areas west of the Mississippi River.

There is still some uncertainty on when the precipitation will change to snow and when the heaviest snow will occur, the weather service said. Some areas could get as much as a foot.

Occasional snow will continue on Tuesday, with another one to two inches of accumulation possible.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 36.
